Armscor/Rock Island Armory’s M1911 FS Tactical series are the full-size versions of an M1911 family that includes three lines: the 3.6” long barreled CS, 4.25” long barrel MS and 5.0” long barrel FS. These guns are full-featured, beautifully built and an excellent value.

The 8+1 capacity lineup includes the TAC Standard FS – 45 ACP, TAC Ultra FS – 45 ACP and the TAC Ultra FS – 10mm. High-capacity models include a 14+1 capacity TAC Ultra FS HC – 45 ACP and 17+1 TAC Ultra FS HC – 9 mm.

Base metrics? The six-groove barrel is 5.0” long and has a 1 to 16” twist. Unloaded weight is 2.7 pounds. Length is 8.75”, width 1.3” and height is 5.5”.

The guns have matte-black Parkerized slides and frames. The barrel vaulted slide has no front serrations and tightly packed vertical serrations in back. It also has a lowered and beveled ejection port.

The TAC series features a triple ported combat trigger with a 4 to 6 pound trigger pull. Moving back, the gun has an elegantly upturned beavertail, a simple loop hammer, an extended ambidextrous thumb safety and the beavertail grip safety.

The slide stop and circular magazine release are both on the left. Underneath the muzzle is a five-slot Picatinny rail. The trigger guard is a standard oval that leads to the grip.

The standard model has an all-black front sight and a fixed snag-free rear sight. It has the classic double-diamond arrowhead checkered grips with the Rock Island Armory logo.

The Ultra’s slide has front and rear diagonal grip serrations. Mounted into the top of the slide are an orange fiber-optic dovetail front sight and a Novak-cut LPA MPS1-Type fully adjustable for windage and elevation solid steel rear sight.

In place of the standard black rubber double-diamond grips, the Ultras have a pair of G10 polymer grip panels that are pitted in front and wavy in back. The left panel cleverly features a prominent indent behind the magazine release.

The Ultra models have the same dimensions as the standard one, except the 10 mm weighs 2.5 pounds and the .45 ACP weighs 2.82 pounds.
