This short-recoil pistol is full-sized, ambidextrous, safety-conscious, modular. It uses double-stack magazines. It has a 4.25” length barrel, 5.6” height, 1.3” width and 7.55” overall length. Thanks in large part to its fiberglass-reinforced polymer frame construction, unloaded weight is 28.25 ounces, or roughly 1.75 pounds.

This Made in Italy Beretta evokes European competitors but place them side by side, and you’ll see the APX has its own design and flair. And the totality is rather stunning.

The frame is available in matte black, Wolf Gray, and FDE. Perhaps the most eye-catching part is the black nitrided finished steel slide. It has four rampart bastion cutouts per side per direction. Thus, four per front flank and four per rear flank, so it’s easy to grab most anywhere. The cutouts also decrease the slide’s bulk and weigh. And if aesthetics can be considered functional because they help something stand out or sell more, then there’s that too!

The full-size design means there’s plenty of room for the high-definition/high-contrast 3-dot steel sights dovetailed into the slide. The 4.25” barrel has six right-hand grooves inside and uses a cam-operated, tilt barrel, locked breach locking system.

Under the recoil spring assembly housing is a 3-slot MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail where you can easily install lasers and other accessories. The gun’s reversible magazine release makes it friendly to both right-hand and left-hand shooters. There is no standard thumb safety, but you can get one as an option. Additionally, the 6-pound pull pressure safety trigger should prevent the gun from firing if accidentally dropped, jarred, etc. There is also a striker deactivation button at back right, a striker block atop the slide and a loaded chamber indicator too.

The gun is modular and comes with three different size (small, medium and large) backstraps, so you can use the one that fits you the best. The grips are textured on the flanks with serrated/raised texturing on the grip front and the backstrap. The front also has three finger recesses, a flared out magwell base and a vertical face combat trigger guard that all cooperate for better control.

The magazines are usually black. But you can also get them in gray to match the slide and slide stop, etc., at the top near the slide. This is a nice contrast to the matte black frame, trigger guard, trigger, grips, etc.
